The shape looks like a gourd. It has bota-mochi. Bota-mochi ( in Japanese ) is a kind of the sticky rice cake. The name reminds us of the round shape of the sweets. Long time ago potters filled the kiln with potteries closely. For example, they put sake cups or sake bottles on the dish. The parts which they were put don't be coverd with the ash. So you can see the quality of clay. It's called "Nuke" in Japanese. Today some potters use bota-mochi as decoration. This work is well contrasted by the orange bota-mochi. The vase will create quiet atmosphere when you arrange one flower in it.

Flower : Tokuzan Tsubaki (Camellia Japonica)
Original home : Japan
Season : December to April
Itfs said there are more than 2000 kinds of camellia in Japan. During Edo era, people diligently produced new varieties of camellia. In addition, masters of the ceremony ( Cha-no-yu in Japanese ) have been deeply affected by this flower for a long time. Camellia has not only the grace of the flowers, also the luster of the leaves.
